U11 Cougars Vs Athenlay Rye 9-1

This was a performance that was a lot closer to what we should be able to expect. The boys were quicker to close down, stronger in the tackle, passed the ball around well and generally had a hunger that has been missing in recent weeks.

None of these qualities deserted the boys when we went a goal down during Ryes first attack.

There were some really good passing moves, particularly involving Josiah and Joe. The midfield soon established a level of control and we looked really good going forward. Mason scored a hat-trick that capped a very good performance. Josiah scored two goals, one of which came at the end of a twisting run from the half way line culminating in him turning back inside and beating the keeper with a well placed shot.

Joe also scored two, the second of which was a great finish. Matthew B got his second of the season with a looping shot and Folabi scored from close range with a neat header.

The defence, as a whole, played well when needed but in particular Adam had a very good game and Robbie was singled out by Ryes manager after the game for special congratulations, he didnt miss a single tackle.

The most pleasing thing to see though was a team performance that contained hunger and spirit, long may it continue.
