U10 Newtown 2:5 Phoenix Tigers. Tigers play well in the rain

We won 5:2 and this did not flatter us.

The game was nearly cancelled due to the apalling weather but Newtown chose to play and we rose to the occasion. From the start we looked quick and alert. Our midfield of Regan Emmanuel and CK were all winning their own respective battles and getting the ball into the box. We had a few shots before Harry found himself in space in the penalty area. The ball came to him and he made no mistake putting it away to go 1:0 up. Our 2nd goal came in under 10 seconds from the restart. As they kicked off to restart the game Harry attacked the ball won it while the ball was still in the centre circle, and went on a run which ended with him slamming the ball into the top right hand corner of the net.

Our 3rd goal was a fabulous team effort. Emmanuel had a great run into the penalty area he saw Harry in space and laid it off to Harry, the goalie came out and Harry neatly tapped the ball onto CK who side footed the ball into the net.

We had other chances during the half, Callum hit a beautiful free kick from just inside their half which came very close to making it 4:0. Callum had a good game looking very composed and passing the ball out of defense well.

It was not quite one way traffic and there was a moment when they got past our defense and they were 3 against 1 with that 1 being James our goalie. James came out and made one of his best ever saves to keep a clean sheet for the 1st half.

We went in at half time 3:0 up. By now it had stopped raining and we were in control of the game. We made a few changes for the 2nd half and at for a little while at the start of the half we were the 2nd best team .They scored 2 goals in quick succession to bring the score back to 3:2, it could have been worse if Tele had not made some fine saves. We settled down and reasserted our dominance. Harry went on a run which ended with him one against one against their goalie, he knocked the ball just wide but it was a great chance.

Emmanuel got some space in the area the ball came to him and he hit it cleanly into the net for a 4:2 lead. Our 5th was a bit of a scramble which ended with Emmanuel with the ball at his feet goal side of their defense AND thir goalie. He will never score an easier goal. A very comprehensive win with some big positives.

Not only did we see some great individual skills today but the workrate of so many players was excellent.
