U10 Phoenix Tigers 2:1 Darenth White. -- A hard fought victory

Last time we played Darenth White we lost 5:0, our worst defeat of 2009. Today we were at home but we were without Emmanuel. In the first half we were marginally the stronger team. We had a great passing move which saw Regan pass to Harry, Harry pass to Luke who was in front of goal. Darenth's desperate last ditch tackle got Luke not the ball and we had a penalty. CK took it but unfortunately blasted the ball over the bar. CK made amends 2 minutes later when his powerful shot was deflected by their defender into the net and we were 1:0 up. We went close to extending this lead when CK got through on goal but struck the ball just wide and when Harry's blasted volley from outside the box went over by inches.In the last minute of the half they won a corner we failed to clear and they equalised.

In the 2nd half we still looked just about the stronger team and it was half way through the half when CK struck a shot, the goalie parried it out but Harry was on hand and blasted the ball into the net to go 2:1 up.

We were ahead but the game was still close enough to be tense. Jamie ran back half the length of the pitch shoulder to shoulder with their winger to make a vital tackle. Ryan and Jamie showed great discipline to restrict them to so few shots and James and Tele coped well with the few shots they had. Despite this they had their chances and when in the last minute the ball was heading over our goal line it looked as if they had secured a draw. It was only an inspirational charge back from Harry who cleared the ball off the line that sealed the win.

A tense, hard fought but well deserved victory.
