VETS MAKE THE FINAL AND DARREN CARTER WINS TWO HEADERS IN ONE GAME!!

After a dismal performance the week before in the semi final of the Beckenham Hopsitals Cup, the Vets faced Eltham Palace in the semi final of the League Cup knowing that if they didn't perform Palace would gladly give them a good hiding.

Luckily the Vets played as we all know they can, putting in a gritty performance to win through by 2 - 0, in a very tight game.

Phoenix had all of the chances but still had to wait until the 2nd Half until Steve Kirby gave them the lead. This was followed 2 minutes later by Andy Robins chipping the Keeper that gave the Vets the cushion they needed to see out the game.

The whole team played well but an excellent performance by Andy Robins stood out a mile, after a few below par showing from the tricky wideman this season. Steve Bad Boy Brown also put in a 'good shift' as did Tony Warren. Often critised for overelaborating and showboating when on the ball, Warren was superb just mopping up and playing the easy ball, a real performance for the team.

Another talking point was the sudden heading ability of Darren Carter. Carts not known for his aerial ability even won 2 headers in the game completely ruining the opta stats that had him down as Nil for headers during the season.

With Tony 'Peter Pan' Brady back from tiling yet another kitchen, and Twinkletoes Perryman on the bench but coming on late on to shore things up, the Vets at last seem to be getting some players back.

Eltham Palace played their part in a lively game, and credit where

credit is due, they came back to the Club and had a beer and a chat afterwards. Just as Long Lane did earlier in the season, they played hard but were gracious enough to accept the result and have a drink afterwards, so fair play to them.

Next week the Vets face Eltham Palace again, this time in the league.
