A week on from playing and beating Eltham Palace in the League Cup Semi Final, the Vets were again at home against Eltham Palace but this time in the league.
After losing in the away game earlier in the season, winning the Cup semi was pleasing, but both sides knew that the league is where its at, and Manager Eamonn Nally pointed this out in his pre-match talk, saying that this was the biggest game of Phoenix Season.
Unfortunately,not for the 1st time this season Phoenix had one of those not at the races days. Just as we have done all season after winning a tough game the week before we had a game where we just couldn't find anywhere near enough to reach the level of performance we needed to produce. Coupled with the old defensive demons returning whereby we made mistakes and gave away poor goals. We never really had any decent spells of possession nor did we create many chances.
We didnt show enough fight, we didn't show for the ball when we did have it and we got completely out fought in midfield especially.
Without going into minute detail, we got beaten and we can't really complain.
A Steve Brown consolation goal is about all we can say.
Next week should see us at Home to Rutland.With PETTS WOOD withdrawing from the league, no surprise there really, and all results expunged, seeing as we hadn't played them yet (not for the want of trying!!!) we are still in with a chance of promotion if we can get back to our old selves and start playing some football again. We now have 5 league games and a Cup Final to play until the season ends. Lets hope we can have something to crow about come the end of season do on May 29th!!
